LINGUISTIC CLICHÉ IN CONTEMPORARY GEORGIAN MEDIA AND POLITICAL DISCOURSE
Abstract
Verbal communication, as the highest form of information exchange in public relations, represents the most significant function of language. Spoken language - the process of orally conveying thoughts through the core lexical resources of a language - is dynamic and lively. Its study and analysis make it possible to examine a wide range of syntactic constructions in contemporary Georgian spoken language, as well as the innovations and main developmental trends occurring within it.
The era of globalization is closely intertwined with speech. In the context of the digital age, the linguistic units involved in sentence formation are constantly evolving. Language is influenced by extra-linguistic factors relevant to society as well as by individual tendencies. In an era saturated with information, the role of media and politics in society remains undefined. Media and political discourse strongly influence one another. This discourse is spontaneous and dynamic. Consequently, in spoken language, constructions often break down, new constructions are formed, and elements of widely recognized clichés are employed.
A linguistic cliché is a fixed expression that exists in a language in ready-made form and is used to convey content that is repetitive, frequent, and familiar. A formal cliché conveys a common referent, without which communication would not be possible. A cliché is a standardized, stereotypical communicative unit. Speakers often resort to standard, formulaic expressions in order to convey thoughts quickly and concisely.
The goal of this research is to study and analyze the linguistic clichés prevalent in contemporary Georgian media and political discourse. The relevance of the topic is determined by the establishment of linguistic universals, which arise from the efficiency of language when structuring the official, concise version of thoughts in spoken discourse.
The analysis of syntactic constructions in spoken language can be regarded as innovative. Based on the findings of this study, it will be possible to classify the linguistic clichés identified in media and political discourse.
