SYNTACTIC FEATURES OF MODERN ONLINE NEWS MEDIA IN THE GEORGIAN LANGUAGE
Abstract
Although media language has often been examined from a stylistic perspective, its syntactic organization in Georgian has received limited systematic analysis. This article examines the syntactic patterns characteristic of contemporary Georgian online news media and offers their functional and discursive interpretation. The study is based on authentic texts from Georgian online news platforms (InterPressNews, Agenda.ge, and Civil.ge) and employs descriptive, functional, and discourse-analytical methods. The analysis focuses on three key syntactic tendencies: sentence simplification with the dominance of parataxis, the use of elliptical and fragmentary constructions, and theme–rheme organization. The findings demonstrate that these syntactic models are motivated by the communicative goals of informative discourse, particularly the need for rapid, clear, and sequential information delivery. The study argues that the syntax of Georgian online media does not violate normative grammatical principles but rather represents a functional adaptation of the language to the demands of mass communication. The results contribute to contemporary research on Georgian syntax and to the functional understanding of media discourse.
